Making Learning Sticky (and Smelly!)
Mrs. Scherer introduced a fantastic, sensory twist to traditional word work for her first graders this Halloween season. Instead of simply writing words on paper, students were given a dollop of shaving cream right on their desktops. This activity not only brought a fun, festive element to the classroom but also tapped into important learning techniques.
The children enthusiastically spread the cream into a smooth layer, creating a temporary, scented canvas. They then used their fingers to write out various Halloween-themed words, like "ghost," "pumpkin," "witch," and "bat."
The activity concluded with the students easily wiping down their desks, leaving behind clean surfaces and Halloween words deeply etched in their memory.
